I have a long walk this evening along with Handcock to Ralestin camp where some Australians from Egypt is camped. It is about 2 miles from Lark Hill Camp. In the distance about 4 miles away was pointed out to me Longfellows "Village blacksmith under the spreading chestnut tree"

Monday August 7. 1916
A nice day but very cool in the morning. Again staffing today. I finished reading "On and Off the Turf in Australia" by Nat Gould. I also finished reading yesterday "Stonehenge" yesterday and today" by Frank Stevens.
Tuesday Aug 8. 1916
Very cloudy this morning but bright & sunny this afternoon. I was up at the cook house today. It is much shorter hours than stoking the hot water boiler. "A" [Short hand not transcribed]
