statues, but several are covered up with sand bags for fear of an Zephlin raid. I saw the spot where Cromwell was buried, but his remains were removed in 1666 and placed outside the Abbey. The Church of St Margaret's is in the Abbey grounds. One of the thombs covered up is that of Edward the Confessor.
From here I went to St James Park, and saw Buckingham Palace in the near distance. They are also an ancient looking pile of buildings.

Wednesday August 2. 1916
A nice cool morning. I had a very late breakfast. I took the bus to the Tower of London and crossed over the Tower Bridge which is a wonderful structure lifting up in the middle to let ships pass under.
Tower of London is a very ancient structure & is a very wonderful place bring used at different times as a palace a prison and a fortress. It was commissioned by William the Conqueror, and now covers 18 acres. there are many Towers. After passing under the bloody Tower one passes into the armoury. The Jewel
