Gas

carelessness on the part of the men in not seeing that they have their helmet put on properly.

After coming out of the chamber all brass or other metal buttons on our clothes, equipment etc are turned a greenish colour, the effects of the gas on the metal.

We now prepare for the Tear Gas by removing the P.H. helmet & putting on the rubber sponge lined goggles & march into a dug-out or chamber in the ground which is charged with the gas.   The smell of it resembles a freshly cut pineapple & the eyes (after we are in the chamber for a few minutes the goggles are removed) begin to smart & tears run from them.   This is the only apparent affect, with
