man is mostly fatal, & it is the throat & lungs that are attacked by it, the result being a most painful death often, perhaps, hours of suffering.   Tear gas only  affects the eyes, by causing tears to run from them & for the time partially blinding the man who happens to have been caught in it. Another gas used by the germans is called Phosgene & is a mixture of Chlorine & carbolic acid gas & is very deadly.   It is invisible & has an odor similar to the smell from a freshly   turned field.   The victim feels no ill effects from (over)
