The diggers raided some trains & got wine & eatables & finishing up nearly all shickered was funny. Got to Arras about noon & as the driver had been on 31 hours with only 3 hours sleep he refused to take us any further & took his engine off. We had to wait till 10pm when the frogs put an engine on & took us away. They did fairly well too.

1.2.19
Snowed last night but we were bonny & warm. Much different from last night. Nearby are the diggers steel drums. Still plenty of rations. Train kept going fairly well. Arrived at Harfleur at 3pm & then moved to the camp per boat. Gee everybody is dissatisfied. The camp is cruel. After our good little billets in France we come down here to a terrible hole & sleep 16 in a hut without a fire. Its cruel & we are all growling some. Managed to click for a job for tomorrow. An orderly officer.

2.2.19.
Absolutely the coldest night I've put in for ages. Feet more like ice. Did orderly officer duty but there wasn't much to do, so did as little as possible. All the captains who came down with us have been transferred to the A.I.B.D while we remain here. P'raps we will soon get some idea of our jobs.

Managed to click for another job. Had to go to the station at 9 pm & bring a draft into camp. They didn't arrive till 11.30 so I didn't get into bed till 1 am. No good to me.

3.2.19
Cold again last night but was warm. Went into Havre in the afternoon & did the clicking business. Managed to get a few meets for the rest of the week. Had afternoon tea & dinner at the American Y.M. Very poor feed tho.
