heartily glad when after halting on the road past Es Salt from 3 a.m. till 2 p.m., we came out on to the top of the hills onto more rolling open country which did not smell of things dead.

Coming along at a good pace we came about 9 miles past Es Salt towards Ammon & there made camp at about 4 p.m. They were fighting at Es Salt Ammon all day today & I now hear that it fell this afternoon yielding only 150 prisoners.

So I expect we shall move on again in a day or two.

Ammon is on the Hadjaz Railway hence its importance.
