April 26 | Put to sea met a violent storm in which the Resolution sprang a leak & Pass'd much of the Coast.
Put into Port | 61 | 213 | |
Stayd but a few days when at Sea found the Coast quite unlike any draughts of it ancient or modern. Met with many obstacles before we passd the narrow Streight which divides Asia from America where the Coast of America takes a N.E. direction. I followd it in hopes of having all difficulties overcome.
Augt 17 | Stoppd by an impenetrable body of Ice & were almost driven ashore, tried & found the same barrier to stretch quite over to Asia. | 70.45 | 198 |
29 | Made the Coast of Asia As winter was setting in steered S.E. along the Coast of Asia passd the Streight above mentioned & steerd over for the American Coast to search for wood &c. Sought in vain for a Harbor, the Coast has no wood but drift except in one place, got some on board & proceeded to the place where we had been before. |
