dated 26th, from my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to increase the complement of His Majesty's Ship under my command to 65 Men.

On the 27th I was preparing to go on board the Porpoise to read my commission, but the convoy suddenly, making preparations to sail and having a number of Letters to close, and no Boat at my command to send them on board the Admiral's Ship, as I had no means of sending them on Shore; I sent my compliments to Captain Short and begged he would have the goodness to send to send a Boat to remain with me to convey them to some Ship.  He happened to be on Shore, but the first Lieutenant, Mr. Tetley, sent me one with his compliments and was sorry he had not just then a better - a little while after it was reported to me that Captain Short was gone on board, to whom I sent my compliments, by the Midshipman who attended, and as I
