Plants  may be brought over in Boxes of their Soil, which should be made very strong, & of a size that each of them may easily be managed by two Men: these must be kept in some Cabbin, or covered place at all times, except in the very finest mildest & calmest weather, when they should be aired upon the Deck; & should also
have coverings of their own made of Oil Cloth, which may be prevented from touching the plants, by hoops bent over them, & nailed to the sides of the Boxes; these in Gales of wind, or even fresh breezes, should be fastened close down, even in the Cabbin; especialy if there is any haziness in the air.
It is very proper, if possible, to let the Plants take root, & even grow for some months in their Boxes ashore, before they are taken on board.
Fresh Seeds of any plant which was thought to be particularly valuable, might also be sown in boxes, upon the point of the Ships departure
