Captain Short refused to obey my orders which obliged me to put him under an arrest, so that he goes home with the additional charges of mine against him - there is no punishment but what he deserves - his wasteful and improper expence & neglect of Stores has been very great, and has left the ship very short of these articles. I hope the Admiralty will order him to be tried on my former charges, as the Evidence will be ready to prove the whole of them. I have taken the liberty to send her with an account of the public transactions, not to trouble you with them but to remain to be referred to in case of necessity, and I have written to my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty recommending Mr. Putland (who you may remember married my Daughter) to remain in Command of the Ship, which I hope my long services will induce them to
