to Rio Janeiro to refresh the convicts & get water.  Captain Short has been very desirous to go there likewise, but I have determined to proceed to the Cape according to orders where I hope we shall find our Friends;  otherwise a French prison may prevent our getting to Port Jackson.  Indeed I think going into Rio is a risk, & if I had my will I would proceed to our place of destination without stopping any where.

The Master of this ship complains heavily at being taken to the Cape, for in case of disaster all Insurances are lost;  & I dont see by what authority the Admiralty could give orders for the Porpoise to take her there.

I like this Ship very well but
