Eustace Compton Lost 2 Ewes & 2 Lambs in June 1802 before Clip day in Decr of the Same year he Lost 5 Ewes in Lamb,
The Ewe were markd by Cutting off a piece of the Right Ear Rudded across the Loin & had the Family fen Brand on them
On the Second of June 1803 he with John Atkin Found one of these Ewes in Spikens flock with the Ear mark
the Rudd mark & the Remains of the Brand on her
Richard Stennet went with Compton to the Pasture examind the Ewe & can Swear to these marks
John Far advised Compton to Let the Ewe remain & not to disclose his Suspicions to Spiken till the[y] are Clipd to See whether Spiken would clip her & whether any of Comptons Fen Flock would Come up with Spikens Fen Flock
John Chapman Saw the Ewe after She had been Clipd with Comptons Ear mark on her & Spikens Brand
Eustace Compton on Augt the first 2 months after he had noticd the Ewe in Spikens Flock told Spiken that he had one of his Comptons Ewes in his Flock & had markd her as his own
James Spiken denied having any Sheep of Comptons & Refusd to go with him to see it but afterwards agreed to go & went
Wm Roby says that one Sheep stood behind the Flock in his Close & it was the Sheep chalengd by Compton

Spiken Said he had not bought the Ewe but did not account for having put Comptons earmark on her & Refusd to Let the Ewe be brought to Comptons pasture to try whether She would Challenge his home Gates but he promised to lead both the Ewe & her Lambs to Comptons house by his boy but now refused to do so. That he told Isaac Mackey that he had rather have given 5 guineas than had his mutton blown
