No man is Less inclined than I am to defeat the or impede the Course of Substantial Justice but I am at the Same time Little inclind to suppose that any Court of Justice will be induced to Convict a Substantial man of good Character & [indecipherable] Spikin is representd to me of the Crime of Stealing a single Sheep I shall however be very glad to See you on Sunday, as the day seems to be Convenient to you & if you will recheck with me [indecipherable] 10 O clock. The Ladies will be glad of your Company

I ought not to be declared by any fear of malice in this representation from investigating the particulars of this business if in the Course of the Enquiry I deem Spikin to have acted Criminaly I will not impede in the slightest degree the Course of Justice but if I judge the Charge to have originated in mistake or malice I will do my utmost to rescue him.
