I received a type written letter from Mr. Gamble tonight. I also received letters from K. & A. Miller while on the march.
Saturday Sept. 29. 1917. (1153.)
Cool and cloudy.
Today we cleaned and oil-painted the Limbres, while the Drivers cleaned their harness. The Battalion done some physical exercises this morning.
This afternoon in the far distance I can see several observation baloons, so we are within an easy day's journey from the firing line.
I received this morning two letters from my wife dated July 17. & 18. No 78 & 79 respectively. I sent Field service Postcards in acknowledgement of all the letters I received this week. [Shorthand transcribed as follows.] I also wrote to my dear wife, letter 94. [End of shorthand]
We were all issued with a white bag of biscuits to complete our issue of Iron rations.
There was a heavy bombardment last night on this front.
