Arrived at Berquete at 4 p.m. Marched to rest camp 6 miles.
4-5-1918, Lingham
Reveille 6-30 a.m. marched to gas school, fitting on gas helmets. Drew iron rations, ready to move tomorrow. Nothing doing this evening.
5-5-1918
Left Lingham camp 12 midday, arrived at another rest camp, 50 tents in a paddock. Walked about 10 miles, the last mile or so in the pouring rain. I am now in charge of 5 men (Artillery).
6-5-1918 In action Borre
Arrived at Bty. 3 p.m. Guns in action. No casualties in this position. The 1st Bty. had almost all of the officers killed or wounded. Lieut. Short killed. He was one of our Sgts. leaving Sydney. Lieut. Coleman also killed. Major Randell wounded. Major Selmes is now C.O., D.A.C. Plenty of shells about. We are amongst the French.
