the air constantly for half an hour but they were a long way in the desert but it proved that the enemy are not a great way off; Today the Mayor of the village sent over 2 calves again for the squadron; A troop went with Col. Meredith today to patrol along the canal & had a royal time at a French landowners place, he supplied the lot with dinner composed of ducks, beef & mutton, also whisky for those who cared for it; A large landowner offered to give two large houses for the men to use as barracks also a house for officers, but the Col. declined the offer as he said the camp was now struck & we are in a more suitable spot if we are attacked; I am on duty at the well tonight & a patrol of 4 men are constantly on patrol several miles in the desert both day & night; tonight being the first time the night patrol go out.
