Dear Alan,
We are wondering every day whether you are still in Egypt, & hoping that if you have gone on to Gallipoli you are still safe. I know very well, if there is fighting to be done, that you will stand your risk with the others & will be in the front rank, but I cannot shut my eyes to the risk being great. I hope for the best.

The casualty lists so far published here have been undeniably heavy, but the Australians have made a name that will last in their history, for gallantry & success. All the papers & all the people thrill with pride at the accounts of how they landed at Saba tepe (or whatever it is) & held on in face of the Turks & Huns.
