"Askold" came out and anchored just off our seaward side. She was there all the duration of our stay. The sea close in is a bilious pea green colour, but a couple of miles further out there is a distinct change of colour to deep blue. 6 P.M. there is a warm breeze blowing off the land bring a smell of foliage and earth.
Meeting held after lecture re a message received about mess contracts in England. Price 6/6 pd. including service. Decided to mess ourselves as price is too high. Also complaints were made about quality of Saloon Food. Capt Kane A.A.M.C. complained of finding cock-roaches in his porridge. Complaints about fish not being scaled. As I was on 3rd shift Officer of Guard asked to be excused at 10.30 & went to bed.
