no rain fell. We all then got blankets & hammocks & put the hammocks up. This was a screamer as the mess holds 246 men for sleeping and 253 men for mess. Each man has the length of a hammock & fifteen inches breadth in which to sleep, certainly not too much judging by the swearing. This is how some of us lay swinging from the roof.

Each man has but 15" in which to lie as the hammocks all touch one another. Numerous Heads were bumped, & owing to the heat one can scarcely imagine the din & the laughter caused by the struggle to get into bed.Lights out at 10pm –I was asleep long before this.
