28th  December Life - [occasionell?] from the [numerous?]
numbers of flies and moschitoes which made it  
almost [impossible?] for us at any time to keep
our eyes more that half open.

29. The Dr  and Wommi go over   ?? to  
see if it is possible to aviod travelling through  
the Brickalow scrub. when we [leave?] this - and
returned to dinner bringing with him a fine
specimen of   -   Thermostat sunrise 64
noon 85.5 P.M. 9. Sundown 82 Killed another goat
rigged a kind of [arcade?] composed of green
boughs to shelter us from the [close?] and excessive  
heat - Wommi kills 2 ducks which we [wash?]  
for tea which was a most desirable ??
ment upon the deseased goats flesh ??
have had for the last fortnight an attack of the piles
the first attack of the kind I ever suffered. I of
course [felt?] it dreadfully - the whistling duck.
common here. it is smaller than the common wild
duck and mark very like a sparrow ??
marked [shirt?] without   ?? which gave them a coour
somewhat similar to ?? them in pea soup -
30" The Doctor has this day decided that we are
to ?? 150 ?? ?? as sppm as possible an arr
angement which when it is considered ?? we have
for the last three weeks been restricted to the ??

consequence from not finding the missing mules
and some of those we have are suffering from

Killed a sheep as an ?? change to the diseased
goats and in commemoration of tomorrow's being
New Years day when we are also to have an??
?? pudding ? we can boil in our [loot?] and with the
additional indulgence of being allowed sugar with it
took a long walk among the Bricklow scrub
and was ?? devoured with sand flies and
moschitoes  I however found three new plants, one an
acquatic kind - wrote a letter to [Corp?] ?? P.P.
[Angus?] in order to take advantage of any ?? chance of
sending it -
1 January 1849 - This day was oppressively hot
[must?] consider ? of the day we have a fat sheep
killed and ?? ?? pudding for dinner after which
I took a stroll with Wommi  crossed the creek
and towards Kents Lagoon to look for plants &
duck eggs found a few specimens of the first  
but none of the latter. Therm. Sunrise 64

discovered 38 distinct kinds of [grasses?] the ??
part of which are ?? [devoured?] by our  
cattle
