Bench of Magistrates

Mr Campbell wishes to have the sense of the Bench how far he can be considered as Incompetent to sit as a Magistrate on the ground of his being an Evidence.

The Bench is of opinion that as he is called on as an Evidence he cannot sit as a Magistrate.

John McArthur Esqr being sworn says that the complaint he has now to make against Mr Robert Campbell Junior is for that he on the 22nd inst. did in an illegal manner and contrary to the laws of the Realm take or cause to be taken away by the assistance of several men from out of the dwelling house in this town belonging to myself and Mr Blaxcell two Copper Boilers which he values at £40 Sterling.

Mr Robert Campbell Junior says that on the morning of the 22nd he was ordered by Mr Robt. Campbell Senior Naval Officer to go to the Bonded Stores and ship on board the D[uke] of Portland two stills with Heads & Worms compleat, the Bodies of the Stills (or Coppers) were not to be found.
