Friday June 21
The Fireflies in certain parts of the Jordan Valley are brilliant at night. Today we rode over to the Dead Sea through Jericho. Jericho is now practically a mass of ruins. The famous City of olden times lies buried. Its population consists approximately of about 200 all told and of these 200 there are few which are up to the ordinary standard of the Native. We rode through Jericho & started for the Dead Sea. We failed to reach it owing to the Turks Artillery. This Flat is undoubtedly the wilderness so often mentioned in the Bible.
