cluster of small cottages.

We laid up at the wharf before breakfast, where they started loading coal straight away, by the very antique method, with the baskets.

There was no leave granted, but we were all marched ashore to a park a couple of miles out of the town and locked in. Some ladies turned up and gave us refreshments in the Sunday school picnic style, though the home-made pastry was very nice.
