wear and tear on crockery etc. We had lost nothing but probably the chief steward anticipated the fact that many men would take cutlery etc off for souvenirs.

Tuesday 24th
Hottest day we have had so far. Land sighted about 8.30 am and we put into Dakka, in French Senegal about 9.30, having to go in by a very circuitious channel, going around a rock which was almost a miniature of Gibraltar in appearance, also being a fort.
