Draft of Instructions for the Investigator

By &c.

Wheras the Sloop under your command has been fitted & stored for a Voyage to remote parts; and wheras it is our intention that you shall proceed in her to the Coast of New Holland for the purpose of making a complete examination & survey of the said Coast, on the Eastern side of which his Majesty's Colony of New South Wales is situated, You are hereby required & directed to put to sea the first favorable opportunity of Wind & Weather, & proceed with as little delay as possible in execution of the service above mentiioned, repairing in the first place (in case you should find it necessary) to Rio Janeiro [Rio de Janeiro] for the purpose of obtaining supplies of provisions & water, and having obtained such supplies go on with as little delay as possible to the cape of Good Hope, where you are to take on board such supplies of Water, Live Stock,
