No 11                    Gloves

1573      in the 15th or 16th year of Elizabeth Edward de vere Earl of oxford Came from Italy & brought with him gloves sweet bags a Perfumd Leather jerkin & other Pleasant things  The Queen was picturd with a Pair of thse gloves on her hands trimd only with 4 Tuftes or Roses of Colord Silk    Stowe

Gervase markham in his Compleat English house wife under the article of her Skill in Perfumes gives a Recept for Perfuming Gloves
1483      they have Covet mush Sweet Powders fragrant Pomanders & odorous Perfumes whereof the Smell may be perceived all over the house & almost a Stones Cast off  the Places where they have Sat  the beds wherein they have laid their delicate Bodies  the clothes & things which have touched shall smell a week a month & more after they be gone
Their handes are Covered with Sweet washed Gloves Embroiderd with Gold Silver & what not  Stubbes &c
1526      Sir John Nevile of Chete gave to his Daughter on her marriage a Pair of Perfumd glove & another pair   [Roll of Airy] p 171 
             There are Plenty of Perfumed Gloves among the newyear gifts to Queen Elizabeth
