H.M.A.S. "Melbourne" seen alongside Jap cruiser this morning about 9 A.M.. Boat from Melbourne visited Jap. Later a message was received stating that the "Melbourne" had left on another service. Much rain today, heat oppressive, more close than hot. Temperature 91° @ 2 P.M.

Concert at night. King Neptune came aboard at 8 P.M. and his proclamation was read from the boat deck. Several names were read out for initiation. King Nep. announced that cleansing would take place at 2 P.M. on the morrow, & then he and his minions set off on a tour of
