At 3.5 P.M. a wireless was received from the "Orvieto" stating that the "Sydney" had engaged the "Emden" off Cocos Islands the morning before and the "Emden" had to be beached to prevent her sinking. The "Sydney" had 2 killed & 13 wounded. This message was read out by the Col & great jubilation ensued. The afternoon parade was cancelled. After the "King" was drunk at Mess, we toasted the Sydney crew.

Tuesday 10th Novr

"Minataur" passed down the lines this morning early & signalled Good Bye & Good Luck, so she must be going
