passed quite close to us on her way from the rear up to the front of the convoy.

Monday  9/11/14

In early hours of morning thought I heard shots, we would then be passing close to Cocos Islands on the West, was sleeping up on boat deck.

During morning carried on with usual parade. About 11 A.M. the Jap cruiser which was on our right was seen to be steaming furiously ahead around the van of the convoy over towards the "Melbourne" on our left. Great excitement ensued. She was seen to be manouvering around it at a great rate
