14 vessels showed up in line on the horizon & entered heads about 12.30 P.M. They proved to be the N.Z. convoy of 10 troopships & 4 man-o-wars. The warships were the 1st class cruiser "Minataur" (1908 built) from the China Station, a Japanese 1st class cruiser and two British 3rd class cruisers most likely the "Pegasus" and "Encounter". All the N.Z. Transports are painted all over the same grey colour as the warships. The painting is said to have cost £9,000. They anchored in a bunch just inside the heads. Lt. Col. Braund & Capt. Wollack (Adj) went to attend a conference on board the "Flagship"
