Strehlow, Hermannsburg: €” €œInan article with reference to the nomencla-ture of South Australia it was stated thatSurveyor Lees, who adopted the name €˜Oodnadatta, €™ left no record of its mean-ing. It is, to my knowledge, an Arandaword, meaning €˜the blossom of thu mulga €™(Acacia aneura), and should be spelt pho-netically €˜Utnadata. €™ May I also add thatthe meaning of €˜Kopperamanna €™ (whichshould be €˜Kaparamara €™) is €˜roots [in theform] of a hand. €™ €˜Kapara €™ means a rootand €˜mara €™ the hand. €˜Kaparamara €™ is aDieri word, which was corrupted by thewhites into €˜Kopperamanna. €™
