7th June, 1918

My Dear Marks,

I am so glad to see your name in the Gazette for the D.S.O., which you have so fully deserved for your good and
courageous work in command of your battalion, and on which I heartily congratulate you. I am so pleased, too, to have
this opportunity of again thanking you for all you have done for us during many a long day now, and I send you my best of wishes
for all good fortune in the future.

With kind regards, and trusting that we may be able to serve alongside each other until the end.

Yours very sincerely,

W.R.Birdwood.
(Gen.)
