Sunday 27th
Raining. Received 4 letters (home, M.B. & Cousin Fan).
Church parade in Y.M.C.A. Did not leave hut the rest of day.

Monday 28th
Received pair of socks and wash bag from A.M.C. Comforts.
Recd. letter from Harry Baldock.
Afternoon, working at the trenches.

Tuesday 29th
The Papers contain the good news that Roumania has declared war on Austria (as from 27th) and this likely to shorten the duration of war. Raining all day. Unfit for training.

Wednesday 30th
Fatigue duty.
Coal party.

Thursday 31st
Received some papers.
Working in trenches morning.
Afternoon, Route march to Bustard Hotel. Saw balloon sent up by Royal Flying Corp. for observation purposes.

Night walk to Amesbury. Last night met Gordon Warick in camp at Rollestone 13th Batt.

September 1
Friday 1st
All day route march set out at 8.30 a.m. with ful kit & rations. After a couple of hrs. going we passed thro' Winterborne-Stoke [Winterbourne Stoke] thence Yandley
