interest in obtaining for me the same salary as Col. Collins which is Four Hundred and Fifty Pounds and many advantages which I have not.

With respect to the progress my infant Colony has made I can say but little, the attention the Cattle required has much retarded Cultivation as well as many public works. I have however cleared the ground for a Town, built an excellent Store House, Barracks for all Officers, a Brick Guard house and small jail, and a comfortable cottage for myself.  The Soldiers and most deserving Prisoners I have allowed to build houses for themselves, so that the number of houses, most of them with small gardens form a respectable looking Village, and has a very pretty appearance from the head of Western Arm. The houses extending along the Valley towards the Rothsay Hills between the two rivers of water as described in my Journal, the Prisoners are divided off on one side by Macmillans Burn.  I beg to apologize for my having employed
