is a small settlement at the harbour. This island is mainly used as a coaling depôt. There were 5 ships in there when we passed. We plainly saw the wreck of the "China" just outside. All that remains is the red-rusted hull which is well up and out of the water. This is at the entrance to the Red Sea, the island being in the middle with a channel on either side, this is the widest passage & is 15 miles across. The African coast shows up plainly on the left, rugged peaks & table top mountains. There are a number of Turkish island - light houses in the Red sea which have been extinguished since their declararation of war. At sunset passed a returning Indian troopship.
