Thursday 10th May 1918 
At 4 am enemy planes bombed Heilly & Merricourt. From our post we had a fine view of the bursting bombs & reckon we are lucky to be on duty & not sleeping in the Village. In the operations on the night of the 7th 34th Batt lost 2 officers & 8 men K, 6 officers  & 40 men W. 4 officers & 36 men missing, now supposed to be Prisoners in enemy hands. German Wireless (picked up by our own Wireless) today claims 4 off & 36 of our men prisoners.
