Duffy and I received orders yesterday to hold ourselves in readiness to proceed to the front at short notice. As this usually means within 48 hours, we are naturally rushing things somewhat. Forty or fifty officer are leaving here without any men, and we are in the bunch.
I forget whether I told you that Brissenden came down to see me last week end. I thought I had lost my compass and mentioned it to him casually. Next day a parcel came for me by dispatch rider and I opened it to find that he had sent me down his - the one that had been presented to him. He would not
