Jack Massie is to be here man – The Bartons are returning to NSW in a few days. Robert will get [indecipherable] leave and sick leave – Then he exchanges into an English Corps – gets a commission, and returns to the front in about 3 months I suppose – Arthur was next on the list for a commission in Gallipoli but of course Archies death and his marriage made us wish to get him here for 3 months breathing space. Robert says little but he has us having had some extraordinary escapes, notably a piece of shrapnel striking his chest and flattening out all the bullets of his bandolier – and so merely knocking him down. M White troops – of those who started out as troopers only he and two others remain the rest are dead or invalided! –
