My dear Sir

          I have got this length with a miserable constitution, much worse than when I left Calcutta, & here we have determined to remain for some time, I have been on shore one week and have already derived benefit by the change. I therefore Trust we shall be able to proceed by the next Fleet, or by the first China ships of next season, & most sincerely do I hope to find that the French nostrum continues to keep you easy & in every respect in better health than when I last took leave of you.

          I sent you some Alpine Paddy by the Marquis of Wellesley. Capt. Le Blanc, but unfortunately that ship got on the ground going down the Bay of Bengal & instead of proceeding from Madras to England, went to Bombay to be repaired by what ship Capt. l. B. sent on my letter and parcel of Paddy from Madras I can not say, but no  doubt, I think, he did so for I have always found him particularly obliging.  A second parcel with a second copy of Mr. Moorcrofts letter I sent to you under the care of a Dr. Anderson, a passenger on
