"Having been employ'd for these last twelve Years in the Command of His Majesty's Ships Supply and Buffalo on the Service of New South Wales, during which period I performed five Voyages Round the World for the benefit of those distant Settlements, independent of other Voyages, and conceiving I have been useful in bringing that beautiful Country to its present flourishing state I am induced to hope (as it is my wish to establish myself and Family at Port Jackson) you will be pleased to Order my having such Grant of Land, and other indulgence, as my exertions may seem to you to merit.  My Uncle Governor Hunter, and Governor King, as well as Sir Joseph Banks to whom I have the honor to be known, I am confident will testify my exertions in the Service of the Colony.  Enclosed is the probable state of the Stock I have now in New South  Wales, some of which were imported into that distant Country from England at a great expense to  me.  I have the honor to be, Sir, with the greatest respect,

Your most Obedient, Humble, and
Devoted, Servant

Wm Kent

Right Hon:ble W:m Windham
His Majesty's Principal Secretary
