October 5th 1805

My Dear Sir

I had promised myself the pleasure of writing to you some days since in addition to my Letter of last Saturday, but nothing material has taken place, while my daily attendance at the public offices has been very fatiguing. Mr. Cooke however gives one hopes that I shall yet get a Port Commission; and my Lord St. Vincent who is in Town for a few days, and I saw on Thursday expressed his indignation that they should attempt to send me to the Colony without it, and directed me to say as much to Lord Castlereagh when I saw him.  He regretted he has not met you in the course of his Summer excursion.
