Cape Town June 3 1806
My Dear Sir
I have the satisfaction to inform you of my arrival in Simons Bay on the 10th. Instant at Night in the Lady Sinclair wth. the Porpoise under my orders. Our voyage has been tedious altho with fair weather & winds but by the Porpoise's very bad sailing we have been fourteen Weeks and five days in accomplishing it. I have written to you by way of St Helena & Rio Janeiro and now have the certain conveyance of the Adamant [indecipherable] H.M. Ship Captain Stiles. We happily found this place in possession of His Majesty's Troops and everything is as tranquil and orderly as you can conceive - to add to these advantages altho necessaries are scarce and dear yet there is no pressing want and it is expected that by the intercourse of shipping and industry of the Farmers the Cape will in a few months begin again to flourish if it remains in our hands.
