St.Vincents [West Indies] Jan​y.27th​. 1793

My Dear Sir

I give you joy of the proportion of plants designed for this place being landed, and of there being very little doubt of our carrying the remainder in the finest order to Jamaica. - I left St. Helena with great hopes that I should not have lost 20 Plants more, in this however I have been mistaken, as it amounts to triple the number. I have thought it my duty to keep the strongest plants where there was any difference for Jamaica, on account of my Voyage thither, and have made an allowance for a few dying and those I intend to bring home for His Majesty's Garden at Kew.
​Dr. Anderson did not expect me here untill April or May, however, he has the garden so well prepared, and from what I see about him, I have not the least doubt of our Voyage being productive of general good in a very few years.
​I arrived the 22nd​. at Midnight - the next morning I had an opportunity to inform you of my arrival by a Schooner under sail for Liverpool. - My passage from St. Helena only 27 Days, so that my voyage has been happily expeditious - I must by leave to refer you to my former letter for a particular account of it.
