I found the Tides, as you was so good as to remark to me, to be only so very rapid at the Springs.  At the Neap Tides the stream was so moderate that any two raised Rock could go against it, but all across, in the Springs, with little variation, it ran as strong as in the Thames at Deptford.  I was only once at Grimsby for a couple of hours, but I did not go to Hull, as I could not with propriety quit my Ship for a Night.  I could only get Mitchel's Map, which is a poor piece of work.  I hope however, Mr Dalrymple may be able to complete my survey by some Map he may have.  I will send you, Dear Sir, Mitchel's Map if you please to have it.  I believe you may rely on the situation of the Spurn with respect to Yarmouth as being very exact.

There is no landing at low water except at the Spurn and at Cleaness, as the Banks are soft mud, and at Neap tides only small Boats can get over them at high water.  I regret particularly I could not complete my survey as I should request the honor to inscribe it to you, which I [s]hall ever do when I can complete any
