and he has publickly sent me Word that he should not obey any orders from me as being on leave, so that I am reduced to this, altho I must give up my whole here, & go on board of him, or remain where I am and have no controul in the management of the Ships out;  and that Man presuming to command me.  All this might have been prevented by the Admiralty directing me to hoist my [indecipherable] and for the time being on board this Ship, and Captain Short to follow my orders, and I expected no other.  I wrote to Mr. Marsden about this, desiring him to let me know what was to be done, but have not yet received an answer.  Nothing but My Dear Daughter who is suffering a great deal, & cannot bear my absence, should prevent my instantly taking command of the Porpoise.  If the Admiralty do not impower me to controul the Ships out, God knows when we may arrive at the Colony, & I am come to a strange end to be led across the World by a blind Man;  by truly blind man for there is not a creature on board the Porpoise who is fit to direct this Voyage & therefore for the General
