the Ship since we embarked, and my time has not been idly spent, for we are now in tolerably good Sea order, & I know were to put my hand on any thing I want; difficulty, as a Passenger, I never experienced before, and I have had no assistance from the Porpoise whose commander is certainly a very uncivil Bear, I think after all I have been in some degree privately got the better of. 

     After the Admiralty had given up opposing my having Naval Rank in the Colony, & I was appointed to the Porpoise;  Adml. Gambier sent for me, & said the Board, in order that they might arrange matters wished me to write for leave to go in the Lady Sinclair as accommodations were there for me, which without considering the consequence I did, "to proceed in the Lady Sinclair to accompany the Porpoise".   Under this circumstance the Board have considered me on leave, & they give Cap. Short the power to receive their orders without communicating them to me,
