I have sent my paper which I request you to blot and alter wherever you think proper & to return it to me or not as you think necessary. The facts are correct & I believe support the inference.
I have remarked to you that the leaves of Vines have two kinds of pores from one of which have water combined with excess of oxygen appears to transpire, & from the other a Fluid, apparently pure water; but which leaves, on evaporation, a large residuum compared with its seeming limits. The latter fluid is laden with matter in proportion to the vigor of the vine & the tip of the points of its Branches, whence it appears to be a portion of what was once in [indecipherable] either in the state of the ascended sap; or it may be something analogous to the excrements of animals. I send you a little bottle filled with it; it appears pure water & as it was taken from many different plants, some not remarkably vigorous, it possibly does not contain much other matter.
