Cape Town Febr. 15th. 1800
Dear Sir
After a pleasant & not tardy passage of 68 Days from the Lizard, I arrived here the 3rd instant; Embark to day & sail to morrow Morning. On arriving here I called on Mr Barrow, Doctor Roxbury being gone to India, I requested he would be so kind to give Cayley directions how to proceed in seconding your wishes - which that gentleman undertook & made arrangements for Cayley throughout the Peninsula in a post to the Inhabitants all round & requested them to give Cayley a [indecipherable] his plants, food & lodgings, however Cayley not liking what appeared to him a restraint did not go near Mr Barrow to receive his orders, but took up his quarters in Cape Town, where he remained unseen by me or Mr. Barrow till last night when
