[Page 3]

shall feel myself grievously disappointd, if in the Close & accurate investigation they are Empowerd to make, of a body of land as large as all Europe laying in Latitude Productive of all kinds of Rich merchandise & into the Rivers of  which they are prepard to penetrate, they do not discover articles that of importance to commerce & such as will enduce the Company to Fit out ships for that coast & will Repay with infinite advantage the encouragement now so liberaly given.

One Remark however it is necessary I should make which is, that owing no doubt to some misunderstanding of the Committee of Shipping, one half of the money orderd to be paid to the  Commander Officers etc is made payable in China, but as the duty of the Investigator will is intended to be wholly confined to the Coast of New Holland, & her permission to deviate from the duty of surveying them goes no farther than to permit her to visit the [indecipherable] on some other of the South Sea Islands she will have no possible chance of visiting China.

No doubt the Committee of Shipping will find means to remedy this misapprehension more easily than I can, I however take the liberty to request that a Power to draw upon the Company at some future period for the Amount of £600 or bills to the same amount upon the Company, to be negotiated either at the Cape or at Port Jackson will ensure the purpose both intended to the Commander &c as well as any any other mode I am able to suggest.

I am Sir
 with sincere Esteem & Regard
Your very Faithfull Hble Servt.
