carry his own provisions, & he must be a very strong man that can carry 20 lb extra of his gear & ammunition &c. They talk of making stations in order to have supplies forwarded.

Upon a horse I can take 100 lb of food extra of all other articles for my pursuit. I am not afraid to travel by having only another person besides myself. By this I have not the incumbrance that will always be found in a large party. But I do not know now when I shall set of again, as the mare that I have got, is fixed upon for to be in the Light Horse, which the Gov. is raising. I have write to Gov. King concerning it, but have not yet had his answer. If a person has any thing from Government (unless he is an officer) he is unsure how long he can depend upon it. The other old mare that I had, which was past work, as soon as I had nursed her up, she was then wanted for Government employ. And now it is the same with this. If this takes place it will spoil my harvest. The horses belonging to Government are lost for want of proper management. A man that understands the rearing of cattle is much wanted here. If Government was to send one of the above description it would greatly benefit the colony.

I have but yet had little time to notice what articles are likely to be useful in commerce, dying &c. I find very little is to be learned from the natives relative to this.

If Gov. King sends me answer I shall inform you of it by the present ship if it comes in due season.

I remain as I always wish to be
your truly humble sert.
